Little Creek flows into Jordan Lake, which provides drinking water to almost half a million Triangle residents and already fails to meet state water quality standards. The addition of so much pavement and construction in this particular area will increase flooding and reduce infiltration, with more harmful runoff reaching Jordan Lake.
Other Chapel Hill neighborhood and environmental groups including Neighbors for Responsible Growth, Friends of Bolin Creek, and local representatives of the Audubon Society and Sierra Club all oppose this development. Dozens of concerned citizens have spoken up at recent Town Council meetings and urged the Council to say no to Aydan Court.
and ask them to oppose any rezoning of this tract that doesn't measure up to our community's existing environmental protection standards, and to deny Aydan Court's development application.
The Council will next discuss Aydan Court on Monday, June 20, 2011 during a public hearing (7:00 pm) at Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

5. (Optional) Council members who haven't yet publicly signaled how they plan to vote on Aydan Court include first-term Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt, and Donna Bell - both up for re-election in 2011. Sample e-mail:
I recently heard about the Town Council's plans to consider rezoning six wooded acres along N.C. 54 for the construction of Aydan Court – 90 condos with 146 parking spaces. Currently, the land is zoned R1, to allow only low density development. This property is environmentally sensitive, on the border of the Upper Little Creek Waterfowl Impoundment. It is located within a state-designated Significant Natural Heritage Area containing critical wildlife habitat, wetlands, and a major public drinking water supply.
As a Chapel Hill resident, I urge the Council to oppose any rezoning of this tract that doesn't measure up to our community's existing environmental protection standards, and to deny Aydan Court's development application.
Sincerely,
